Application Outcome Aware Root Cause Analysis
Real-time, end-to-end analytics embedded on home routers
Domos makes software for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) that can be embedded into any customer premises equipment (CPE) for analysing application outcomes and causes of poor outcomes in real time.
With the Domos network x-ray agent, ISPs gain access to valuable insights into any bottlenecks in their subscribers' WiFi or broadband connections.
ISPs can learn how to enhance the customer experience by allowing subscribers, customer care agents and network planners to become data driven.
How it works
- Single Slim CPE-installed Software Module.
- Network Quality and Latency Monitoring.
- Application Classification with Pattern Recognition.
- Quality of Outcome (QoO) Analysis.
- Network Quality and Latency Root Cause Analysis.
1. Single slim CPE-installed software module
Domos’ technology provides a low-friction entry point to a spectrum of analytics capabilities all deployed on customer premises equipment (CPE).
- All the magic (the analytics) on the CPE.
- All the insight sent to the ISP's cloud. No hidden cloud cost and no privacy or security issues.
- Fully configurable, how often and how much data do you want?
- Domos CPE SDK is easily integrated into OpenWrt/prpl, RDK-B, OpenSync.
- Supports top chipset vendors and collaboration with many OEMs.
- Low footprint.
- Domos CPE API is easily integrated with TR-069, USP, WebPA, and similar allowing the ISP to leverage the insight Domos continuously generates.
2. Network quality and latency monitoring
Domos combines a series of network quality and latency monitoring techniques with the BBF TR-452 mathematical framework for network quality such as:
- Active probing with TWAMP Light / STAMP / Ping2.
- TCP SYN ACK / DNS Lookup RTT Capture.
- Real-Time WiFi Latency Distribution Estimation based on the WiFi AP based on radio environment data.
The QED framework allows Domos to combine the network quality sources while adjusting for noise and differences in measurement techniques. As well as monitoring segment by segment (in-home, access, core, to servers) and adding them together in a mathematically sound fashion for end-to-end analysis.
Network Quality and Latency monitoring will be a key part of customer support, self-help, network management and capital expenditures (CapEx) analysis.
3. QoS class detection by Pattern recognition
Domos leverages pattern recognition to, in near-real time and within the customer premise, classify video conferencing, online/cloud gaming, video streaming, spatial computing, and AR/VR. No DPI needed or significant compute/memory resources needed. Runs easily on modern customer premise equipment (CPE) and classifies with high precision.
The algorithm observes metadata such as packet sizes, frequencies, volumes, protocols, ports, and timing. No snooping or IP based classifications which simplifies privacy, security, and is future-proof with regards to the ever increasing share of traffic that is encrypted.
Each class is based on traffic patterns and network quality/latency requirements, not content provider, hence it is compatible with reasonable traffic management under net neutrality regulations.
4. Quality of Outcome (QoO) analysis
Domos is the lead contributor to the Quality of Outcome framework in IETF. The framework allows you to measure a network and calculate the probability of the network meeting the requirements Domos have through collaboration with known application and OS vendors to make network requirements for the most important apps classes.
Understanding how different network quality changes affects different applications classes is the core of Domos technology.
The QoO Framework builds upon the TR-452 standard, which allows for combining sources of network quality data. Adding them together in a mathematically sound fashion. This is key as we cannot measure the WiFi the same way as the WAN. Applying the distance measure, allows us to go from highly complex latency statistics to understandable probabilistic statements about network quality.
Domos calculates the QoO for actual application sessions traffic and hypothetical QoO if each end-user device were to initiate an application.
Letting ISPs truly understand the quality they deliver to subscribers.
5. Network quality and latency root cause analysis
Find what is causing detrimental effects on application outcomes (QoO with continuous monitoring). Domos is able to pinpoint which network segment and what root causes detrimental application performance.
From the customer premise, Domos has visibility of both in-home and the internet access and automatically separates variable and fixed latency at each segment.
Network Quality and Latency Root Cause Analysis will be a key part of Customer Support, Self-Help, Network Management and CapEx Analysis.
